Gorleston Rangers FC

Played a good Caister Roma Centurions in the NSYL shield final eventually running out 1 – 0 winners. We started off very well, in the opening minute a defence splitting pass from Connor set up Tom who was closed down very quick. Goalkeeper Jack M was his usual dependable self. William, Luke and Lewis all defended as a unit, with Evan sitting deep to set up many of our attacks and break up theirs. Jack C, Connor, Leon, Billy and Lewis D all passed well in midfield and closed down our opponents quickly. Tom was excellent up front, chasing down every ball, not giving the Caister defence a moments peace. Our goal came midway through the half front a huge clearance from Jack M, which Tom was onto in a flash, nipping in between the Caister goalkeeper and defender to calmly side foot the ball home. HT 1-0.

Second half Caister's attacks became more frequent, but we held good shape and cleared the lines well. Jack C became more influential in the middle of the park and produced an outstanding sliding block tackle to thwart the Caister captain from equalising. Considering all of the new faces this season, with many having no previous NSYL experience, winning both division 2 and the shield is an outstanding performance. Special thanks to the boys for their loyalty at the start of the season when we were struggling for players
